Our Story

Leila Jo’s Café & Bakery started as a dream as Chef Jaclyn Steele pursued her culinary career. Chef Steele was born in Pittsburgh where she began working at different restaurants and country clubs. She eventually became a Chef/Pastry Chef Instructor at the school she attended, the Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Pittsburgh, and later The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

She continued her education, receiving a bachelor’s degree from Robert Morris in Hospitality Management, and also two Masters Degrees, in Instructional Leadership and the other in Business and Workforce. She has been a certified Chef/Pastry Chef in the industry for the past 25 years and a Certified Culinary Educator for the past 18 years.

In 2012, she moved to Punxsutawney for a position as an instructor at IUP. It was during her 6 years there, she met her husband Eric. Eric was supportive of Jaclyn’s dream of owning a bakery/café and became instrumental in making it a reality. When the renowned Shaffer’s Pizza went up for sale, it was a no-brainer to pounce on the opportunity to incorporate this wonderful business into the café plans. After all, one of their first dates was to Shaffer’s Pizza. Soon the Steele family welcomed their daughter Leila Jo, and subsequently decided to name their new business after her.

Now they have the best of both worlds featuring delicious Shaffer’s Pizza and mouthwatering scratch made pastries. Every week Chef Steele designs and creates products using all real fresh quality ingredients that are impossible to pass up.

Leila Jo’s is honored to be a part of the Punxsutawney community and to provide it with a wonderful dining experience. Stop in for some yummy deliciousness today!
